At last! After 10 months in business exile from Davao due to the pandemic, I was able to visit the city for my unit’s recruitment and sales roadshow. And since it is my first long trip after months of work-from-home only dealings, I made it imperative to stay in the city’s newest hotel plus a 3-day trip to Governor Generoso.

Due to matrimonial considerations, this trip started with the leisurely part. Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental is a 4-hour drive from Davao city. It is famous for Cape San Agustin. Reaching the trio lighthouses was literally reaching the terminus of the Philippine road. The view from the top though was truly an emancipating experience for my long-quarantined senses. A refreshing prelude before the meetings in the city.

BUSINESS: Where Davao’s Latest Hotel Amenities And Heartfelt Hospitality Meet

Acacia Hotel Davao was my only preference for this trip. Apart from its 11 event spaces, I was thrilled to do my intimate meetings about finance at the exclusive club lounge on the 10th floor. Most importantly, its location along JP Laurel is easily accessible for my recruits and prospect owners to meet me.
What made a mark for a recommendation from this stay though was the thoughtfulness of the staff.
As soon as I opened the car trunk to prepare the bags for check-in, the guard at the basement parking, who was carefully directing an entrant car, asked me if I would like to request a bell service staff. This appears to be usual in a hotel but that initiative was irresistibly comforting for someone who came from a 4-hour drive, with luggage for four to be unloaded. A few minutes after, the bellhop arrived with a luggage cart.
The staff was indeed pampering. We requested the breakfast meals the next morning to be served in-room for my mom, sister, and Jasmine, and my little dapper, who chose to stay in bed and rest more. They delivered it instantly without any charges. These were just some of the stories of heartfelt solace that would make you feel that they all seem ready to assist you in Acacia and at that, they mean doing it sincerely!

Real, Than Reel Meetings
The post-vax business dealings might not swiftly resume to the office. Thus, a hotel for both business and leisurely use is indeed a significant preference for scheduled work trips. You may have mastered creating new businesses through virtual meetings for how many months, but do not ever forget that selling has its “personal” component. Shopping is owning what you need. Thus, we are all shoppers. We buy things that we need from time to time. The only bad thing one gets from shopping though, is when one does it without a schedule, thus compromising the other financial needs. Do not just shop because it is a leisurely thing to do nor since the item is cheaper. You can “add to cart” all the time. But “check out” deliberately.
By scheduling, this means shopping at the set time. A time when your target budget is already available. Set. Schedule. Shop! Until the next box!

It is because of such longing that I was able to rediscover entertainment during my breaks from work-from-home sessions. I consumed a genre of entertainment from our Asian siblings up north: popular Korean TV series.
As a new certified K-drama fan, I started listing K-series with plots revolving around sales and marketing, business, and finance. Believe me. They make good versions of those types of series aside from their undoubtedly appetizing Kimchi. My list is still a short collection, but I am excited to discover more of this genre, knowing that I can smoothly stream videos using my phone or laptop at home.
My only criterion: Series that are focused on business or sales, with romance on the side, instead of the other way around.
Kkondae Intern
Aired from May 20 – July 1, 2020, Kkondae Intern is a Korean workplace comedy-drama about the lives of the Sales and Marketing department employees of an instant Ramyeon company.
This series has got to be the number one. Sales executives would exactly see themselves in Mr. Ga. From your first rejection as an intern to the first promotion of your first mentee, you will definitely enjoy reminiscing your journey climbing the corporate ladder while watching the series. The “Sell me this- “ scenes like that of Jordan Belfort’s “Sell Me This Pen” in The Wolf of Wall Streetare surely both a savory dose of entertainment and a subtle review of your closing skills. Dapper alert: You will love his suit and necktie combos.

2. Itaewon Class
Aired from January 31 to March 21, 2020, Itaewon Class is a Korean business rom-com series about the journey of starting up a food business to building it as a large business empire.
The most compelling lesson for me in this series is how your gains from an investment can actually buy the corporate empire of your mentor (or enemy). The motivational message of realizing such a dream was so clearly and artistically unfolded. It provided me a lot of realizations while I was bingeing on the episodes. The series also shows how social media marketing works, how important it is to take care of your people, and how strategic it is to bend your principles when your business necessitates it.

The two Korean business rom-com series I recommended somehow served as a therapy to my yearning of going back to office-based work. The scenes made me look at relatable corporate encounters from a different perspective, which I am excited to apply once we all go back to work face-to-face.
Play a little. Play an episode between video conferences or during days off. Trust me. You need those like a bowl of piping hot Jjamppong on a breezy night. Give yourself some air and lay low for some time. Take a break from beefing up resumes and amassing sales incentives. Do not worry. Your work rival is doing the same. He is reading this.
When you have been to Davao city recently, it makes sense to say that President Duterte’s hometown is championing its campaign to be the country’s top “Bleisure” destination (Business and Leisure). How I stock supplies and save budget through the S&R Members’ Treat Sale
The S&R Members’ Treat Sale is a grocery sale to look forward twice a year. It happens every March and September (Set a reminder on your smartphone, Yuppie!). This is when quality imported grocery items are priced at 50% less.

What makes me choose to grocery shop at S&R is beyond the product connotation of “imported”, “stateside”, “pang-mayaman/ pang-dato”.
