Breathing Fabrics: Soothing the stiff corporate clothing

Remember that prospects can only be comfortable if you, on the first place is composed and relaxed. When they are comfortable, they listen.

Within milliseconds upon prospects gaze at you, they swiftly classify either you are a “closer” or a “loser”. A matter of a letter to differentiate, let that “C” be the Clothes you’re wearing the moment you offered the first handshake. Clothes which provide comfort and enhance confidence.

TRICKS

Color and Pattern

Shades of our shirt affect significantly in our dealings. Colors are influential to a persons mood.

imageWhite conveys purity. My default hue on first client meeting. As you try to gauge your prospect’s personality on your first encounter, it is strategic to drape something pure, neutral and neat. Befriend them and pitch clean. Of course, don’t forget to ask for the sale. They may sign in now or at least lessen the number of meetings towards the final close. On days when it seems like you’re getting the hard time befriending the prospects, go back to White.

imageLight Blue denotes sincerity. The tint of choice to enhance credibility. When prospects say NO because the pitch sounds too-good-to-be-true or perhaps you have been having credibility objections for how many days, wear vibrant of blue shirt the next day!

image
Pastel radiates relaxation. Best to don on pressured days. When you’re seem going to a chasm of rejections or panting before the month closes, don’t let your prospect feel the cram. Wear pastels! Also, best during mid day humid pitches, open house events, exhibits, field activities.

Color coordination denotes being organized and composed. Any of your interlocutor surely appreciates your offer due to the pleasant reception of the colors engulfing them as you pitch. Refrain from wearing Red and busy patterns like herringbone, houndstooth and plaid or checkered.

Fabric and Fit

imageDrapes dictate disposition. When we are comfortable with what we are wearing, we just simply feel good about ourselves. This then transcends to anyone you are interacting with may it be a client, your boss or a mate. They’ll love the presence of someone with a relaxed vibe.  Fabrics that breathe with you like lightweight polyester, drape and rayon, are good source of confidence.

Well fit clothes denote that you are prepared for winning. Thus, your first effort then for success on this context is to simply get your sizes and measurements sharp.  Have these measurements saved on your mobile’s notes and be sure to update it at least every quarter. Buy pieces which aren’t too snug yet not too loose.

Making the prospect feel comfortable during the entire sales encounter should be of your utmost goal. Remember that they can only be comfortable if you on the first place, is composed and relaxed. When they are comfortable, they listen.

CHEST TO CALVES:  Oxford Slim Fit Short Sleeve Shirt, Dry-EX Ultra Stretch Ankle Length Pants
image
CHEST TO CALVES: Linen Cotton Short Sleeve Shirt, Dry-EX Ultra Stretch Ankle Length Pants

Dry-EX Ultra Stretch Ankle Length Pants : May it be on my corporate dealings or out from the sales table flees, this pant breathes with me. Light to wear. Stretches on festive strolls while creases just rightly every time I cross legs during account negotiations. A fabric innovation that’s gratefully tolerant to wide range of motions your grind calls for. A life wear!

Scoring an impressive first impression primarily lies on your externals. Drape those closing skills with clothes that exude instant and irresistible admiration exactly on the first tic the prospect saw you.

After that engaging prelude, making the prospect feel comfortable during the entire sales encounter should be of your utmost goal. Remember that they can only be comfortable if you, on the first place is composed and relaxed. When they are comfortable, they listen.

Honda Flagship Shop opens with Riders’ Lounge and Test Circuits

The Philippine’s largest HPI flagship shop – A hybrid of motorcycle retail concept shop with test course facility and an exclusive lounge for Riders in a 6,960 sqm expanse.

Concurrent with the launching of six new Honda Motorcycle models, the partnership of Honda Philippines Inc (HPI) and DESMARK dealership unveils the Philippine’s largest HPI flagship shop in Davao city – A hybrid of motorcycle retail concept shop with test course facility and an exclusive lounge for Riders in a 6,960 sqm expanse.

Minutes after the inauguration rites, I started roaming around the spacious display area. Not the usual bike retail shop you’ve been in. With the cozy settings of the customer’s lounge, you would thought you’re about stay in a lavish hotel.

Still looking for what would uniquely describe a Honda Flagship Shop, I met Ms Jang and started to network a bit. Apart from the showroom, spare parts and power products display area, Davao’s HPI Flagship shop features a 1,500 sqm test circuit where riders can get that feel while riding a Honda motorcycle they are involved to own. The Rider’s Hall upstairs is also phenomenal. Jang sizzled. She tried to get consent from the in-charge while I also called my fellows Mark, Joseph and Teresa.

Just two more floors up, I thought of the intricate recreation floor of the well-appointed vacation club property I am working in. Imagine a lounge, 250-seater function room, recreational facilities and my favorite, the veranda with the pseudo poolside appeal! With all these features as free, I applaud HPI and DESMARK for innovating such irresistible overture for their owners and such a wise yet thoughtful move to sustain bigger market share being the number 1 motorcycle brand in Asia.

Honda Flagship Shop was already inaugurated in Cebu last January 2017 while that in Manila would be within the 2nd quarter this year. All  Riders’ club leaders should know about this (Send this link to a rider you know).

With all these features as free, I applaud HPI and DESMARK for innovating such irresistible overture for their owners and such a wise yet thoughtful move to sustain bigger market share being the NUMBER 1 MOTORCYCLE BRAND IN ASIA!

Caliber Machinists | One Stop Motorcycle Shop

Davao’s Honda Flagship Shop has one of the largest service shops in Mindanao with resident machinist Mr Ace Acedo who represented the country in Vietnam for the Mechanics Olympics. Complete array of spare parts and accessories is of instant availability since Honda warehouse is just behind the store. Honda Philippines staff also serves at the 2nd floor for any owner’s inquiry. Indeed, a one stop shop for bike ownership, your after sales concerns and mechanic maintenance.

Honda Philippines Inc. President Daiki Mihara graced the inauguration (Above Left). Interior and display of the retail concept shop.

2 New Fun-Courses for the 25th Batch: Mcdonald’s is looking for Kiddie Crew!

As this year marks the silver batch of McDonald’s Kiddie Crew Workshop, your little ones will surely enjoy the daily sessions through new courses, “Make-Your-Own-Dessert” and the McDelivery Game which reinforce the teaching of McDonald’s time-tested values of team work and discipline.

imageChem volunteered to take this pic while we were walking through on “make your own cheeseburger” activity. It’s obvious I’m elated preparing one of my favorite offerings from McDonald’s. Just after the take, she then asked “How’s your burger? I said, “Almost done!” Then she said in a sweet yet smart tone, “Ang service time ha.”

What a jab! Chem leaving me with that reminder startled my memory while at the same time shifted my euphoria to a surging sense of efficiency. It refreshed me of one of the books by New York Times bestselling author, John Maxwell. “I knew I have already known about McDonald’s Speed Service System!” I deciphered.

On the first part of the book – Leadership  101, Maxwell narrated the infant years of McDonald’s to strengthen his discourse about the context of that chapter.

“By 1948, They also created what they called the Speedy Service System. Their kitchen became like an assembly line, where each person focused on service with speed. Their goal was to fill each customer’s order in thirty seconds or less. And they succeeded. By the mid-1950s, annual revenue hit $350,000, and by then, Dick and Maurice split net profits of about $100,000 each year”

“Theirs was one of the most profitable restaurant enterprises in the country and their genius was in customer service and kitchen organization, which led to a new system of food and beverage service. In fact, their talent was so widely known in food service circles that people from all over the country wanted to learn more about their methods. At one point, they received as many as three hundred calls and letters every month. That led them to the idea of marketing the McDonald’s concept”

For any adult who has 6-12 year old loved-one, knowing such snippet from McDonald’s history is a smack-dab reason why to enroll the family’s kids. Activities during the 5-day course of McDo Kiddie Crew is basically leaning about McDonald’s time-tested values of teamwork, hard work, discipline, responsibility, and sharing with the sprinklings of fun and friendship.

You know that your kids just love to act like grown ups right? Thus, all-time favorite sessions, “Make-Your-Own Cheeseburger” and on-floor, drive-thru, and front counter trainings are still there to convert their curiousity to learning new valuable life skills.

As this year marks the silver batch of McDonald’s Kiddie Crew Workshop, your little ones will surely enjoy the daily sessions by learning more with fun while satisfying their sweet tooth through “Make-Your-Own-Dessert”. Furthermore, the segment on how to prepare customers’ orders through the McDelivery Game will also reinforce the teaching of McDonald’s classic values in service. “Ronald Dance” will also be introduced to channel their active cells into arts and healthy lifestyle.

Indeed, not everything is learnt inside the classroom. Let your kids learn more inside any of the 500 participating McDonald’s restaurant in the Philippines. Lent just ended. Start then another week of educative summer memories for you kids. Week 4 to Week 10 sections are still open. Register not later than April 30, 2017 for 650PhP.

8 FIRST-TO-TRY Eateries in Davao (When you are a SMART Tourist)

Davao is home of eateries with Michelin caliber. These are home grown eateries which serve palatable delicacies. Their delectable dishes are qualified by the traffic of daily queues and stories of satiety since they started serving for their first diner-turned-patron.

Street eateries from Hong Kong (HK), Macau and Singapore (SG) received nods from Michelin Guide inspectors last year. In fact, two hawkers in SG even garnered the elusive “one star” recognition.

Spending most of my 2016 trips hunting for such award-winning streetfood made me theorized a criteria why one dish is worth for the Michelin mention. Such then is my basis enumerating these as the first 8 worth to try food in Davao. A list of eight (8) for the city’s 80th Charter Day celebration.

Davao Famous Restaurant and Cecil’s has been serving for almost 50 years like Ying Kee in San Po Kong. Lachi’s, Em’s, Kuilan’s and Aling Foping’s serve pastries and desserts which are as Michelin mention worthy as that of Kwan Kee in Sham Shui Po and Kei Tsui and Joyful Dessert House in Mongkok. Lyndon’s, as ironic as it termed it’s specialty is indeed the best pork rib. It is grilled and sauced savorily like that of my top favorite Satay served by Lan Ying in Kowloon City. Ultimately, the braised Carabao meat served by Bulca Chong is a dainty endemic dish, inducing that distinctly Davao redolence even years after completing this gastronomic itinerary.

*Download DAVAO GUIDE APP in your phone to weave these eateries in your itinerary. Smart to visit Davao in March-May (Summer, Araw ng Davao – 2rd week of March), August (Kadayawan Festival) and December (New Year’s countdown with the Torotot Festival)

Davao Famous Restaurant (HYSIAN SATEME)

image

Partaking endemic meals with locals has always been my travel fetish. Thus, I would recommend having your lunch or dinner here to enthrall your appetite dining with Davaoeno families. For shorter queue though, be here as early as 6:30 am. “Tanan man” (All), that’s what typically the server’s answer when you ask for the specialty. A matter of fact since 1968 when it started as “Davao First Restaurant”image. The Hysian Sateme (Seafood Sateme) is my favorite in the menu. You will love the chunks of fish and squid giving variations in your chew with the noodles. Cinnamon – Soy tandem makes that sauce a bomb. Its spiciness teases you too. A reception area where queuing family could wait is set-up when they opened the renovated part.

SERVICE: 6:30 am – 9:30 pm  I  BILL: 195p (Sateme serving for 2)  I  TRY: Gulami I QUEUE: Long in Lunch and Dinner, Only Branch, Serving for 49 years. I LANDMARK: Chinese Archway in Acacia Street, Hop in to a Route 10 jeepney.

Kuilan’s Foodhaus (SIOPAO)

image

These steamed buns with meat (pork or chicken) are perfect for breakfast and heavy snack. Come here by 6:30 to 8am. You will love munching these buns as your first meal for the day when the Davaoeno “grannies-in-SUVs” will be your meal mates. Try eating these with a local 3-in-1 coffee like them, eavesdrop and act like a local! I love that kind of immersion. The whole stretch of Dacudao St. where Kuilan’s main branch is located, is arrayed with venerable trees blowing the most freshening air among Davao streets. Reeeelaxing.

Be sure not to be too late as 2pm since they run out of Siopao late in the afternoon when most of those who queue are just up for take-out. I usually bring my guests here to take these buns as pasalubong since these meat breads could be in fridge til a week. The road going to the flyover just as you go out from Kuilan’s is leading to the airport.

imageSERVICE: 6:30 am – 6:30 pm  I  BILL: 15p/Bun, sold by box too.  I  TRY: Cutchinta, Empanada  I  QUEUE: Long during snack time, 9am, 3pm. With 4 other branches, serving for 16 years. I LANDMARK: Buhangin-Dacudao Flyover, Take a taxi.

*APP TIP: Navigate to “Places”. Scroll  to “Heritage”. Then “Chinatown”. Either from Davao Famous Restaurant or Kuilan’s, it’s near towards the city’s Chinatown district. Affordable shopping or merely immersing yourself to the locals while strolling around – Just dissociate. “Kublai Art Gallery” is also within the Chinatown district, the last street towards the Chinese Archway facing Magsaysay Park. You could also “Eat Durian” after all the strolling, just in front of the Magsaysay Park. The Sta Ana Wharf which will be your departing point when you want to explore Samal Island, is just beside the park. Hop in a “Route 10” jeepney if you’re from Davao Famous and notify the driver to hop you off in Uyanguren (Chinatown). It is best to take the taxi when you are going to Kuilan’s in Dacudao. Same as from Kuilan’s to the Chinatown.

Lyndon’s World’s Worst Rib and Awful Chicken (GRILLED PORK RIBS)

image

Meat is so tender. It seem programmed to auto-shred from the ribs just before your cutlery lands on it. Literally melts in your mouth. This really is the worst you have tried. You might want to mitigate your chit for two. Get the 350G, an additionl rice and a serving of Lumpia Shanghai. I love eating this with a local beer within the bizarro wall paintings inside like your eating with Charlie Chaplin, Jonny Bravo and the Men in Black. Here’s a tip, when the portions you want isn’t anymore available, imagethere’s “Lyndon Dos” (other branch) just two blocks away, still along Roxas Street.

SERVICE: 10:30 am – 10:30 pm  I  BILL: 185p/350G to 270p (600G)  I  TRY: Kalderetang Kambing  I  QUEUE: Long during dinner time. Roxas St turns to a street market by 6pm. Expect the local bustles you would love to get lost in. With 1 other branch nearby, serving for 8 years. I LANDMARK: Roxas Avenue, Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), Almost all jeepneys passes by AdDU.

*APP TIP:  Walk a bit going left once you’re out from Lyndon’s until you reach the end of Roxas St. Hop in to a Route 4 jeepney going to San Pedro Church. Hop Off  where there’s an overpass near the San Pedro Police Headquarters, “D’ Bone Collector” is just on the other side of the overpass.

Cecil’s Snack Inn and Bakeshoppe Inc. (SPECIAL BATCHOY)

imageCecil’s has been serving the Davaoenos since 1963. This famous dish from Visayas is one of their specialties. One of the two restaurants on the list which when a server is asked for their imagespecialty, they seem to recite all what’s in their menu, “Tanan man Sir.” You will love seeing families share their portions here while talking about their day. A dining table away from home. Dad takes few dipper of Batchoy, school-aged daughter samples a nugget of the Choco moist cake while mom nibbles some of the egg pie. Then, take turns who’s to eat the next morsel from which serving.

SERVICE: 8:30 am – 6:30 pm  I  BILL: 90p/bowl  I  TRY: Mami, Pancit loglog, Chocomoist cake, Egg pie  I  QUEUE: Long during snack time and after 5pm, serving for 54 years with 10 other branches. I LANDMARK: University of Mindanao (UM) Bolton Campus, CAP Auditorium, Hop in to any jeepney which passes by UM Bolton. Hop off and ask locals where’s CAP auditorium near Cecil’s.

*APP TIP: Walk two blocks away left where the oldest church of the city’s found, the San Pedro Cathedral. Take a “heritage walk” which you can start with other tourists in Museo Dabawenyo.

Bulca Chong (BRAISED CARABAO)

image

I’m sure I’m getting the cheers of the boozing public when they’ll see this here! The only which serves 24 hours on this list. Bulca Chong indeed is the most native food among the 8. You will love this dish. Period. Then you will love it most after 2am when the gang just finished the last round of beer ending the night. (Davao has been imposing a liquor ban after 2am. Bars and shops are allowed imageto sell alcohol only til 1am.). Best with the throat stabbing ice cold colaaah!

SERVICE: 24hours  I  BILL: 95p/bowl  I  TRY: Balbacua  I QUEUE: Long during dinner time and after 2am, serving for 19 years with another branch in Sandawa area. I LANDMARK: Gaisano Mall Illustre, Davao Doctors Hospital. Hop in to jeepneys which pass by Quirino St. Hop off to Davao Doctors Hospital. Cross the street towards KFC fastfood. Walk left towards the next block. Walk right till you reach Bulca Chong.

*APP TIP: Walk left to People’s Park, Pasalubong Center, Tourism Office, Cinemateque

Lachi’s Sans Rival ATBP. (SANS RIVAL)

image

Tasted the French dessert, Dacquoise? Sans Rival is the Philippines’ version. Lachi’s by far has the most ambrosial layers in Davao. You will love spending time here. Choose those couch beside the glass windows so you imagecould feel the neighborhood cafe charisma of the location while nibbling portions of Sans Rival (It is located inside a subdivision).

SERVICE: 11am – 8pm  I  BILL: 72p/slice  I TRY: Five chocolate torte, all cakes  I QUEUE: Long during snack time and after school hours, serving for 15 years with only one branch with rice meals in Marfori and a cake-only branch in Tulip Drive, Matina. I LANDMARK: Marfori Heights Subdivision. This is the farthest from the city proper among listed, so better to take taxi. You could take a tricycle alternatively from Davao Doctors Hospital in Quirino or from Davao Wisdom Academy in Torres to the Davao National High School (DNHS). Then from DNHS to Lachi’s in Marfori Heights. Seven (7) pesos per tricycle route.

Ems Pasta and Rolls (BAKED SPAGHETTI)

image

Can you just scroll up again and look at those almost golden cheese roofing those pasta? Get your first bite the soonest this is served while those cheese are still hot fresh from the oven. You’ll love it as almost crispy. If Lachi’s gets the authority for Sans Rival, Ems gets for pastas. When you have tried the “Primera” Spaghetti, you’ll be torn between it and the “Baked” the next time. Ems started in Cotabato City in early 2000s. In fact, its imagefront signage still has Cotabato before the “Ems”. The family decided to transfer in Davao and the Davaoenos since then are thankful for such exodus. Recite it with me, “Mille Grazie!”

SERVICE: 8:30am – 8:30pm  I  BILL: 70p/serving  I  TRY: Lasagna  I  QUEUE: Long during snack time, lunch time and after school hours. Serving for 13 years with only one branch which is now in reconstruction for a second floor. By Summer, Ems will be branching out among NCCC Malls. “Bravo!”

Aling Foping’s Halo-halo ATBP. (HALO-HALO)

image

Davao’s version of a Philippine dessert rock star. It is like a sherbet. Look for that quarter size paper with the checklist to customize your portion with 6 ingredients, from cubed gelatin to sweetened Saba. Write your name. Pay and wait. Be in the Matina Town Square (MTS) branch by 9pm when you wanted to enjoy more the place and the crowd with imageband performances and array of bars inside the premises.

SERVICE: 1pm – 12mn  I  BILL: 60p/”petite”  I  TRY: Durian Halo-Halo, Chili con Carne  I QUEUE: Long during after school and office hours in the MTS branch. Most of your queue mates are students from nearby schools and young professionals. Serving for 12 years with other branches in SM Lanang (MALL) and Eden Paradise Resort I LANDMARK: Ateneo de Davao High School campus, Matina Town Square (MTS)

*APP TIP: Take a taxi and instruct driver to hop you off at President Duterte’s Residence. Visit earlier than 5PM. Download DAVAO GUIDE App to travel SMART. Manga-un na ta?!

Unbox the Fun: Choosing a daily Work-Life Fun

No matter how it’s wrapped, there’s always that emotional twitch as your hands get nearer to anything that’s covered.

Love the launching phrase to begin with. Such a grabber! – “Unbox the Fun”. During the launching event in fact, it seemed like I’m seeing a gigantic box slowly being lowered from the ceiling as the program nears to the divulgence of the intriguing new fun products. I have to say the phrase is such a stimulant, opportune for a launching event. My speculations thrilled me segment after segment that night. It’s always been exciting to open a box. No matter how it’s wrapped, there’s always that emotional twitch as your hands get nearer to anything that’s covered.

After leaving a fun hangover in Palawan, Mister Donut’s “Unbox the Fun” groundbursts in Davao, March 16 at the Duterte street branch, Quirino Avenue, bringing more festivities to the city’s 80th Charter Day.

It’s always been exciting to open a box. No matter how it’s wrapped, there’s always that emotional twitch as your hands get nearer to anything that’s covered.

UNBOXING A WICKED BOX

imageFor hot food predators like me, this is a new fun prey! Mister Donut’s first fried-on-spot donuts served in their dine shops, the WICKED PUFFS. May it be a day of stressful board room discussions or a smooth close of a deal, let the sprinklings manage those buds to revitalize your working mood. Sprinkle, top, or swirl sweet and vibrant choices of Hazelnut, Belgian chocolates and Strawberries and cream. I don’t want to suggest that this is a perfect post shift therapy  (and gastronomy!) to relieve some tensions out for that another hassle the next day. Ask you work buddy after 5 and have fun 35PhP for 6!

UNBOXING A FREEZING BOX

imageExhibit events, site visits or any out-from-desk deliverables can be a total exhaustion. Not to mention, the summer sun is now slowly scorching our integuments which piles a reason more of impatience at times especially if the work day isn’t that so smooth. A super quencher which you could indulge handy for your on-the-go kind of day or a short break venting-out inside the cozier Mister Donut cafes, the world’s best brew is given with a freezing touch, Mister Donut’s BREWZEES. For 70PhP, this doesn’t hurt your frugal millennial pocket turning the occasional to a habitual frozen coffee ritual. Not the bad work day, just the frozen coffee ritual. Habitual.

UNBOXING THE BIGGER BOX

imageWe may have differences with our team mates but it’s always been therapeutic to spend a work break with them. After all, methods and personality may vary, but we are in unison with our team goal. Initiate this office fellowship with the bigger portions of our all time favorite Bavarian and Choco Cake donuts.  With the same then price, a box would surely lubricate the team’s determination with a fun touch still at 18PhP a piece.

image

May it be selling a product to a prospect, a system to the share holders or simply your idea to your head and the team, Doughnut-Coffee tandem will always be a power sales tool morsel in and outside the pitch room. The sweetness of these dough, ringed or filled just tastefully complement with the coffee. Work is work but you could make it fun. Unbox that closer in you who persuades for the elusive choice of daily work-life fun.
